On-paper grading

There are several commenting tools within the document viewer to help you mark student papers quickly and easily.

 

On-paper grading consists of the following:

 

  • Bubble comments
  • In-line comments
  • A strike-through tool
  • QuickMark comments
  • A text highlighting tool

 

Tap anywhere on the paper to reveal the in-context marking tool, allowing you to leave QuickMarks, bubble comments and in-line comments:

 

Select a specific piece of text to reveal an alternative in-context marking tool, allowing you to leave QuickMarks, bubble comments, or strikethrough a selection of text:

To begin marking a paper, tap anywhere on your student's paper to reveal the in-context marking menu.

If you would like to mark a specific piece of text from the paper, press the relevant line of text to reveal an alternative in-context marking menu.

 

 


QuickMarks

 

QuickMarks allow you to create a library of feedback that might be applicable on multiple occasions, to multiple students, across multiple classes and assignments.

Tap the QuickMark icon from the in-context marking menu.

A pop-up will appear with the QuickMarks that are commonly used. If none of these QuickMarks apply to you, tap the menu icon in the top left-hand corner of the pop-up to open the QuickMark library.

Tap the appropriate QuickMark set from the QuickMark library.

Tap the most appropriate QuickMark within the QuickMark set.

The QuickMark will now appear on the paper.

Each QuickMark will give your student a detailed definition of the mark. You can see this definition by tapping on the QuickMark from the document viewer.

 

 


Personalizing QuickMark Feedback

If none of the QuickMarks within the library are applicable, you can add further details to your QuickMark to provide more personalized feedback. Tap the QuickMark from the document viewer.

Tap the + speech bubble icon in the top left-hand corner of the pop-up to add a comment to the QuickMark.

Tap the + speech bubble icon in the top left-hand corner of the pop-up to add a comment to the QuickMark.Type your comment in the comment box and click Back to save.

 


Associating a QuickMark with a Criterion

To associate a criterion with your QuickMark, tap the criterion icon at the bottom of the pop-up, which will appear as None by default.

Select a criterion.

Tap anywhere outside of the pop-up to exit and save.

The QuickMark will now show a criterion icon inside of a speech bubble, indicating that a comment has been left and a criterion has been associated with your QuickMark.

 


Deleting and Editing a QuickMark

 

You can delete a QuickMark by tapping on the QuickMark and tapping the delete icon in the top right-hand corner of the QuickMark pop-up.

 

Note: You can also edit the criterion association and comment at any time by tapping on the QuickMark from the Document Viewer.

 

 


Bubble Comments

To add a comment to the paper or to a specific piece of text in the paper, tap anywhere on the paper, then tap the bubble comment icon from the in-context marking menu.

A pop-up box will appear, allowing you to type your comment into the text box.

Tap anywhere outside of the pop-up to exit and save.


Associating a Bubble Comment with a Criterion

To associate your bubble comment with a criterion, tap the criterion icon at the bottom of the pop-up, which will appear as None by default.

Select a criterion.

Tap anywhere outside of the pop-up to save and exit. Your bubble comment will now appear as a criterion icon inside a speech bubble.       

 


 

Deleting and Editing a Bubble Comment

 

You can delete a bubble comment by tapping the comment, then tapping the trash can icon in the top right-hand corner of the pop-up.

 

Note: You can also edit the criterion association and bubble comment at any time by tapping on the bubble comment icon from the document viewer.

 

 


Converting Bubble Comments to QuickMarks

To convert your bubble comment into a QuickMark, in order to use the same comment in the future, tap on any bubble comment, then click the convert to QuickMark icon in the top left-hand corner of the pop-up.

Enter the QuickMark title and select an appropriate set to add the QuickMark to.

Tap Back to finish customizing your QuickMark.

Check your QuickMark details and click Save in the top right-hand corner of the pop-up.

Your converted QuickMark will now appear alongside a criterion icon.

In-Line Comments

 

An in-line comment allows you to add a comment between lines of text within the paper, creating a deeper marking experience.

Tap anywhere on the paper, then tap the T icon from the in-context marking menu.

An in-line comment box will appear. You can immediately begin typing your comment.

Tap anywhere on the paper to save your comment.

 


Deleting and Editing In-Line Comments

Tap the comment, then tap the trash can icon that appears above it.

Tap Delete to completely remove the in-line comment, or Cancel to abort the deletion.

 

Note: You can also edit the in-line comment any time by tapping on the in-line comment from the document viewer.

 


Moving On-Paper Feedback

 

To move on-paper feedback from one place to another within the Document Viewer, simply press and hold the comment, then drag it to your chosen location.

 


Striking Through Text

 

Striking through text can help to advise a student that a piece of their writing should be discounted from their paper.

Tap and hold the text to select the line in which you wish to strike through. The in-context marking menu will appear.

Drag either of the blue bookends to the left or right to narrow or widen your text selection.

Tap the strikethrough icon from the in-context marking menu.

A red line will now strike through your chosen piece of text.

 


Deleting a Strikethrough

To delete a strike, tap the selection, then tap the trash can icon.

Tap Delete to remove the strike or Cancel to abort the deletion
