Grading Forms

With the grading tools side panel active, switch to the Rubric/Grading Form section. From here, you can pick from a set of rubrics that you have used previously or launch the Rubric and Form Manager to create your own.

Creating a Grading Form

 

1. From the online grading toolbar, select the rubric icon to open the Rubric side panel.

 

 

2. Click the cog icon in the Rubric/Form side panel to open the Rubric and Form Manager.

 

 

Note: If a grading form is already assigned to the assignment, the cog icon can be found in the same place.

 

3. Click the menu icon in the top left of the Rubric and Form Manager.

4. Click Create new grading form from the menu

5. Enter a name for your grading form by clicking on Enter grading form name here in the top left of the Rubric and Form Manager. To save your title, click anywhere outside of the text field.

6a. Edit the criterion titles and descriptions by clicking into the text fields. Click anywhere outside of the text fields to save.

6b. Add additional criteria by clicking the '+' icon

7. If you would like to use a grading form simply for adding comments to the assignment criteria, you can disable scoring. Select whether to enable scoring at the top right of the screen.

 

 

 

8. When all criterion titles and descriptions have been edited, click on Save to save the grading form.

Modifying a Grading Form

 

Grading forms can be modified after creation. However, if the grading form has been used to score student papers, modification of the grading form will not be allowed.

 

1. From the online grading toolbar, select the rubric icon to open the Grading Form side panel.

 

 

2. Click the cog icon in the Rubric/Form side panel to open the Rubric and Form Manager.

 

 

3. Click on the menu icon in the top left of the Rubric and Form Manager.

4. Select the grading form that you would like to edit from the dropdown list.

Note: Rubrics that have been shared with you cannot be edited.

 

5. Change the grading form as needed by clicking into any field and begin typing. Click anywhere outside of the field to finish.

6. Click Save to save your changes.

Duplicating a Grading Form

 

Grading forms that have been attached to an assignment cannot be edited. Duplicating a grading form helps instructors reuse a grading form that they would like to modify.

 

1. From the online grading toolbar, select the rubric icon to open the Grading Form side panel.

 

 

2. Click the cog icon in the Rubric/Form side panel to open the Rubric and Form Manager.

 

 

3. Click on the menu icon in the top left of the Rubric and Form Manager.

4. Select the grading form you would like to duplicate from the dropdown list.

5. Click on the menu icon, then select Duplicate from the drop down menu.

6. Click Save to save the changes.

Exporting and Uploading Grading Forms

 

Within the Rubric and Form Manager, instructors can export grading forms to share with other instructors, or import grading forms to use when grading papers. Unlike sharing, once a grading form has been imported into an account, it is then owned by that instructor who may then make any desired changes to the grading form.

Exporting a Grading Form

 

1. From the online grading toolbar, select the rubric icon to open the Grading Form side panel.

 

 

2. Click the cog icon in the Rubric/Form side panel to open the Rubric and Form Manager.

 

 

3. Click on the menu icon in the top left of the Rubric and Form Manager.

4a. If the grading form you wish to export is selected, move to step 5.

 

4b. Alternatively, select the grading form you wish to export from the drop-down menu.

5. Click the Export button from the dropdown menu

6. Your grading form will download to your device.

Uploading a Grading Form

 

1. From the online grading toolbar, select the rubric icon to open the Grading Form side panel.

 

2. Click the cog icon in the Rubric/Form side panel to open the Rubric and Form Manager.

 

3. Click the menu icon in the top left of the Rubric and Form Manager.

4. Click Upload rubric/grading form from the dropdown menu.

5. To upload your grading form(s), you can either drag and drop your file(s) into the Rubric and Form Manager, or browse your computer to select the file.

File requirements: Grading forms only support .rbc files. Scoring can only be included once the grading form is uploaded.

 

6. Once your file has uploaded successfully, click the Open button to open the grading form in the Rubric and Form Manager

Attaching a Grading Form

 

1. Click the rubric icon from the online grading toolbar to navigate to the Grading Form side panel.

 

 

2. Click the cog icon in the Rubric/Form side panel to open the Rubric and Form Manager.

 

3. Click the menu icon in the top left of the Rubric and Form Manager.

4a. If the grading form you wish to attach is selected, move to step 5.

 

4b. Alternatively, select the grading form you wish to attach to the assignment from the dropdown menu.

5. The grading form will now be displayed within the Manager. In the bottom left-hand corner of the Manager, toggle Attach to assignment as On. The same can be done to detach a grading form from an assignment.

Note: Changing or detaching a grading form will remove all existing scoring from papers in this assignment. Overall grades for previous graded papers will remain.

Grading in the Grading Form

 

Grading forms give you the ability to provide free-form feedback and scores to your students for a set of criteria.

 

1. Click the rubric icon from the online grading toolbar to navigate to the Grading Form side panel.

2a. To grade with the grading form, ensure the form is attached to the assignment.

 

 

2b. If the grading form is not attached to the assignment, select the grading form title. A pop-up box will appear asking you to confirm the new attachment. Click Confirm to proceed.

3a. To grade with the grading form, click on the text box for each criterion and begin typing.

 

3b. If the grading form has scoring enabled, enter the grade the student should achieve for each criterion. Click on the Apply to grade button at the top of the grading form side panel to apply this value to the assignment's total point value. Once a grade is applied, it will appear in the document viewer.

 

 

4. For more information concerning grading form criteria, slide this information up from the bottom of the grading form side panel. This will help you apply your grades and comments.

Grading in the Expanded Grading Form Manager

 

You can use the expanding grading form in a separate window to grade papers more efficiently. This opens in a new window and will show you the grading form currently attached to the assignment. The student's name can be seen in the top right-hand corner of the expanded grading form. You can navigate to other students using the standard navigation options and continue to use the expanded grading form to grade each student that has submitted a paper to the assignment. 

 

1. Click the rubric icon from the online grading toolbar to navigate to the Grading Form side panel.

 

 

2. To view the expanded grading form within another window, click on the expand grading form icon to the right of the title of the currently selected grading form.

 

3. The expanded grading form displays the criteria in order to allow instructors to easily make comments and score the paper.

4. Click the Apply to Grade button at the bottom of the expanded grading form window to apply the score to your student's grade. This will add it as a percentage of the maximum total of points for the assignment.

5. To continue grading other student papers in the expanded grading form, use the navigation arrows in the Feedback Studio, or use the navigation drop down to select a specific paper. This will automatically change the paper you are scoring in the expanded grading form.

6. Click Close to exit the expanded grading form.
