Excluding content types

You can exclude specific types of content from a Similarity Report on a per document basis or as a default for your account. Content exclusions can include removing any matches to the bibliography or any places within a document where the author has used quotes. 

Excluding content from an individual document

Once your document has loaded, select the gear icon in the top right-hand corner of the side panel.

Using the checkboxes, select the content types you would like to exclude from the document. 
 

Bibliography: Looks for certain beginning and terminating phrases used as headers in a document.  All the content between the two is excluded. A full list can be found here

Quotes: Looks for all content between quotation marks. A list of supported quotation mark types can be found here.

Abstract: Looks for the word 'Abstract' and any of the terminating phrases.
Methods and Materials: Looks for the words 'Methods and Materials' and any of the terminating phrases
Small Matches - # Words: Removes all matches are less than or equal to in length to the number of words supplied. 

Excluding content by default

Select Settings from the sidebar.

Using the checkboxes, select the content types you would like to exclude from all future documents.

Changing default content exclusion settings will only change the setting for future uploads. If required, previously uploaded documents will need to be individually adjusted.
