Configuring LTI in Blackboard

2. Navigate to the System Admin tab of you Blackboard installation

3. In the Administrator Panel find the Building Block section. Select the Building Blocks link.

5. You'll see a list of any currently active LTI installations. To start a new one select Register Provider Domain.

6. Navigate to the Provider Domain Status section. Fill out the Provider Domain text box. This 'domain' is based on the Turnitin service you use:

7. Set the Provider Domain Status to 'Approved'.

8. Navigate to the Default Configuration section.

8a. Set the Default Configuration radio button to Set Globally

Note: Set globally will make your Turnitin LTI inegration available for everyone using Blackboard. To have individual instructors set up their own installation you will have to provide them with the Tool Provider Key and Tool Provider Secret.

8b. Enter the Tool Provider Key and Tool Provider Secret.

Tool Provider Key: Your Turnitin Account ID (Found on the Administrator Hompeage on Turnitin.com / Turnitinuk.com)
Tool Provider Secret: The 8 character Shared Key you set during the Turnitin Configuration process

9. Set your Organization Policies. Most of the options here do not affect the Turnitin LTI integration however will change how users may access it.

Send User Data (Optional): The default option is 'Send data over any connection'. You can also select 'Never' or 'Send user data only over SSL'. We recommend selecting 'Send user data only SSL'.

User Fields to Send: This decides what data is passed to the LTI provider. As a minimum Turnitin LTI requires you to pass 'Name' and 'Email Address'.
Show User Acknowledgment: Selecting 'Yes' will allow you to enter a message to be displayed whenever users open the LTI integration. This could be a notification that Turnitin is external to Blackboard, an institutional conduct message, a data privacy notification or any other message you would like to display to users. Selecting 'No' will allow users to immediately use Turnitin LTI.
Message Text: If you selected 'Yes' to Show User Acknowledgement you can put your custom message in this text box.

Manage LTI Placement

Once configured you will have to create a 'placement' for Turnitin LTI. A placement will make Turnitin LTI easily available for your users to access and use.
