Creating your account

1

Just received a welcome email from Turnitin? Hello! There are a couple of steps to go through to get everything set up just right. The first one is simple, use the Get started button in the email to do just that.

2

You'll now be introduced to Turnitin. Take your time and read through all the different things you can accomplish but don't worry about absorbing it all in one go. You can download a PDF version to read later or find all of that information throughout our guidance. When you are ready to continue, use the Create Password button.

3

Now you can start creating your account. We'll need a little bit of information from you first. Enter your Email Address and Last name into the fields provided. We use this information to check we have the right information about you. If everything is right you'll receive an email from us.

4

After verifying your details, follow the link in the email you'll have received to activate your account.

5

You can now create your account password. It must be between 6-12 characters and contain at least one letter and number.

6

You are now set up and ready to go! You can log in using the link from our homepage and the details you have just created. The first time you've login you'll also get to set a secret question and answer for use should you ever forget your password.

2

From the Instructor edit page, use the Add Instructor button. There's a lot of other things you can do here. Check out the full guide to learn more.

3

Enter the instructor's first name, last name, and email address. Double check everything is correct before you select the Submit button as the instructor will use this information to log in.

3a

Just getting started and have a lot of instructors you need to add at once? From the Instructor edit page, select the Add List button. Read the full guide for more help.

5

You're set! We'll handle the rest and email the instructor with the details they need to get started.

Allow instructors to self-join

1

Instructors need two things to join a Turnitin account. The Account ID and an account join key. The account ID is easy, that's that unique identifier for your account. You'll find it on the Administrator homepage if you've lost it.

The account join key is just that, a key pass-phrase that will let them into the account. If you are a top-admin the default join key will have been in your welcome email.

2

Want to change the default or not sure what the join key for your account is? From the Administrator Homepage select the edit cog icon and select the Edit account settings. There's quite a lot you can do here, but for now, find the Join Key field. Whatever you put in this field will be used by your Instructors to log in to Turnitin.

4

Give the Account ID and account join key to the instructors you'd like to join the account and direct them towards our website. Using the Create Account link in the top right-hand corner of our website and choosing Instructor will guide them through the rest of the account creation process.

Submitting a paper

If you would like to submit papers to Turnitin, you need to change your user type to an Instructor. You can do so by clicking on Instructor from the user type drop-down menu at the top of any page within your account.

As an instructor, you have the ability to set up classes, submit papers, and view similarity reports. Check out the Instructor quick start Guide to learn how.
