Scope and Sequence

The purpose of the Scope and Sequence document is to offer teachers an understanding of how our prompts can fit into their units and lesson plans. The document lists each prompt and then offers the “essential questions” and concepts this prompt could be used to consider and work on. In addition to providing guidance to individual teachers, the Scope and Sequence document also shows vertical articulation across grade levels. While many prompts fit into a range of grade levels, for the Scope and Sequence document, our Curriculum Team has listed the prompts only once under the grade level each prompts best exemplifies.  However, we know that differentiation is necessary and sometimes classes work outside of their designated grade levels.  To make sure Revision Assistant facilitates this differentiation, the Prompt Library lists prompts under each of the grades or grade bands where the content might be used.  Continue reading to learn more about the Scope and Sequence document and to download the document itself.

Prompt Title: Title of prompt within Revision Assistant.

Genre & Related Subjects: Current prompt genres include Narrative, Argumentative, Informative, and Analysis.  Current related subjects include ELA, Social Studies, Economics, Political Science, Art, Health and more!

Provided Sources: The number of documents, videos etc. for a particular prompt that students will be examining in Revision Assistant while they write to that prompt.

Concepts: A concept might be an overarching idea which frames the lesson plans, assignments and activities. Their purpose is to promote critical thinking around a concept that has an impact on students’ lives.

Essential Questions: These are more in-depth inquiries of the overall concept meant to provoke thought and dialogue within the classroom. These questions also encourage students to recognize their own life experiences and values as legitimate sources for their writing.
