Understanding Proofread Mode

Table of contents

In Proofread Mode, Revision Assistant will help your students spot wonky punctuation, word choices, and spelling, and give them tips (that you can see too!) on how to correct grammatical mix-ups in their essays. Keep reading to see what Proofread Mode will look like for your students on a Signal Check Assignment. To learn more about Proofread Mode on Expansion Pack Assignments, click here

Student View

  1. After requesting one Signal Check, your students will get a pop-up saying they can use Proofread Mode.
  2. They can then use switch the toggle below their essay to On to enter Proofread Mode.
  3. They must select the Proofread button to start the grammar and spelling check.
    • Students can only use Proofread Mode three times per assignment, so advise classes to make them count!
    • The symbols above their Proofread feedback tell students how many Proofreads they have left.

  4. Proofread Mode will underline the errors in their sentences and list them on the right.
  5. They can select each error in the list to see an explanation of how to correct it.
  6. Then, they can select Show Example for more clarification.
  7. Students can use the error explanations and examples to edit their work on this screen.
Any changes they make here will stay in their essay even after they leave Proofread Mode.
  8. Once they've edited their work, they can...
    1. Select the Proofread button to use another Proofread     OR
    2. Select Exit Proofread Mode to return to the Writing Space
