Prewriting Tool for Students

Using the Prewriting Tool

Prewriting is a very important step in writing any essay or report. From your assignment page you can use our prewriting tool to help start and organize your essay. You can even work on your prewriting after you have started your essay. The prewriting content will even be automatically copy and pasted into your writing space.

 

Once you are in your assignment page, you find and use the prewriting tool by following these steps:


 

  1. Click “Start Prewriting” located in the header, above the prompt text and below.

  1. From either of these two steps, click the “Start Prewriting” button.

  1. This will bring up the prewriting section between the prompt text and writing space.

  1. You are able to type and edit as well as copy and paste in the Prewriting Tool text boxes.

 

  1. After the you have completed your prewriting, clicking the “Send to Writing Space” button will transfer all the content automatically to the writing space while keeping the prewriting section headers.

  1. Once in the writing space, you are able to edit your prewriting content normally. You can also click the “Back to Prewriting” button (top right-hand corner) to be taken back to your original prewriting space. You can change and update your prewriting as many times as you want.

All content from your Prewriting Tool will be saved in Revision Assistant just like your essay.


Types of Prewriting

Just like there are different ways to write essays, there are different types of prewriting. Each prompt genre has it's own unique type of prewriting. 

 

Argumentative prewriting

 

Informative Prewriting

 

Narrative Prewriting
