Understanding Expansion Pack Assignments

Expansion Pack is one of the three Revision Assistant assignment types. Unlike Signal Check and Spot Check assignments though, Expansion Pack assignments only offer grammar feedback and do not offer scoring.  The Expansion Pack module is the place to independently practice the writing techniques students have built throughout the year.

Additionally, the essays students write using Expansion Pack prompts help shape the future of Revision Assistant.  On Expansion Pack assignments, students will be writing to our never-before-seen prompts and get to test out our newly-created features.  As students practice their skills we gather invaluable insight from how they write their essays and how they use our new features.  This information helps us enhance the writing experience for you in our product, and, most importantly, Expansion Pack assignments help us choose which new prompts to add to our ever-growing Signal Check and Spot Check libraries.

Please take a look at our Expansion Pack Activities page to get your creative juices flowing on how to incorporate Expansion Pack assignments into your classroom.

How Can Expansion Pack Be Used with the Other Assignment Types?

Each of our three Revision Assistant assignment types (Signal Check, Spot Check, and Expansion Pack) has slightly different capabilities and prompt libraries all aimed at helping students build their writing skills and giving teachers and administrators a complete view of students' progress. While there are a variety of ways teachers can use our libraries in their classroom, we've created one potential roadmap for doing so. Click the image below to see our high-level overview of how to incorporate Revision Assistant assignments from all three of our libraries into a 9-week unit. For ideas on which specific prompts to use in a unit, please see our Prompt Sequences page.
