This guide explains how instructors can enable and disable anonymous grading in the new Standard Assignment, as well as how to submit on behalf of a student in an anonymous assignment.
The new Standard Assignment is only currently available for Turnitin Feedback Studio licenses using the Turnitin website or an LTI 1.3 integration.
In this guide:
- Anonymous grading in the assignment
- Identifying an anonymous student or disabling anonymous grading
- Submitting on behalf of a student in an anonymous assignment
Anonymous grading in the assignment
Anonymous grading can be enabled in the assignment settings during assignment creation or while editing the assignment before a student submits.
When enabled, student names are hidden from the submission list and from the Similarity Report. We are unable to hide student names that appear with the submission itself.
Once the feedback release date has passed, all student names will be revealed automatically.
Identifying an anonymous student or disabling anonymous grading
Occasions may occur where a student’s name needs to be revealed in an assignment where anonymous grading has been enabled. Student names can either be revealed individually or anonymous grading can be disabled for the full assignment.
Revealing an individual student
To reveal the name of an individual student:
- Select the three-dot-menu at the end of the applicable row.
- Select Reveal identity.
- Select an option for why the identity needs to be revealed. If none of the available options are accurate for your scenario, select Other and add your own.
- The student name is now provided in the submission list.
Disabling anonymous grading for the assignment
To disable anonymous grading and reveal the names of all students within the assignment:
- Select the Edit button at the top of the assignment details.
- Uncheck the option for anonymous grading - Hide student details for anonymous grading.
- Select an option for why anonymous grading needs to be disabled. If none of the available options are accurate for your scenario, select Other and add your own.
- The student names are now available in the submission list.
Submitting on behalf of a student in an anonymous assignment
To submit on behalf of a student when anonymous grading is enabled:
- Select the Submit button above the submission list.
- Search for and select the student that requires a submission.
- Confirm that the correct student has been selected.
- Upload the file that is to be submitted.
- The submission is complete and the student will remain anonymous within the submission list.
