Turnitin has a variety of assignments and tools that can be accessed in Blackboard using the LTI 1.3 integration. This quickstart guide can help you navigate using Turnitin in your Blackboard environment.
Create a Turnitin assignment in Blackboard
The process for accessing Turnitin tools in Blackboard differs depending on whether your course is Ultra View or an Original View. Use the tabs below to locate the guidance that best fits your workflow.
- From the Courses page in Blackboard, select the course that the new assignment should be added to.
- Under Course Content, select the + sign.
- From the dropdown menu, select Content Market.
- Select your Turnitin tool. This is named by your account administrator. Contact your administrator if you are unsure which option provides you with access to Turnitin.
- Select the course that the new assignment should be added to.
- Select Content from the course navigation.
- Select Build Content.
- From the Create column, Select the Turnitin option. This is named by your account administrator. Contact your administrator if you are unsure which option provides you with access to Turnitin.
The option for creating an Item is not currently supported with our Turnitin LTI integration.
A modal will appear allowing you to select an assignment or other Turnitin tools. The assignments available to you will depend on your institution’s license.

Editing a Turnitin assignment in Blackboard
Some assignment settings can only be edited within the Turnitin assignment, while other assignment settings can only be edited in the Blackboard course’s assignment list.
Use the reference table to learn more about where each setting should be edited. Any unlisted settings can be edited within the Turnitin assignment settings.
