Submitting to an Originality, Similarity and SimCheck assignment in Blackboard LTI 1.1

In this guide:

Submitting to an assignment

These instructions can be used for submitting to an assignment for the first time, or resubmitting to an assignment if your instructor has enabled resubmissions to an assignment.

  1. Log in to your university's Learning Management System (e.g., Blackboard) the way you normally do.
  2. Navigate to your course and list of assignments. Select the assignment you'd like to submit to. Once your assignment opens, you will see a header with the due date, the title and instructions for the assignment.
  3. Double check that the file you want to submit is an approved file type and size
  4. You can either select the My Computer button to upload the file, or you can drag the file you'd like to submit onto the boxed area of the dialog.

  5. Once the submission has been uploaded, you will see a preview of it on your screen. If you would like to, you can change the file name of your submission in the space above the image of your submission. If your file is multiple pages, you can use the arrows to the right of your file name to scroll through each page.
  6. When you're finished, select the Submit File button so your instructor can review and grade your work.
    • If your file was submitted successfully, you will see a green success message appear at the top of your screen, as well as a selectable tile with an image of your submission on it.

    • If your file was not submitted successfully, an error message will pop up on your screen to tell you why and how to fix it.

When resubmitting, your instructor will only be able to access your most recent submission and submission details. Previous submissions will no longer be accessible.

Viewing your Similarity Report

After submitting to your assignment, you will be able to view your Similarity Report.

  1. Log in to your university's Learning Management System (e.g., Blackboard) the way you normally do.
  2. Navigate to your course and list of assignments. Launch the assignment you'd like to view the Similarity Report for. Once your assignment opens, you will see a header with your assignment title along with the other assignment info.
  3. Your Similarity Score will appear as a percentage on the right of the preview tile for your submission. Select the Similarity Score to open the Similarity Report in a new tab.

Similarity Report considerations

  • If you see Processing on your submission tile, Turnitin hasn't finished checking your submission for similarity yet. Check back in a few minutes.
  • If you see Available on [due date] on your submission tile, you'll need to wait until the date listed there to see the report.
  • If you see Failed to process or Timed out on your submission tile, Turnitin is having some issues generating your report. Take a screenshot and email it to your instructor to let them know what you are seeing.

For more information about your Similarity Score, see our Similarity Report guidance.
