User data migration to iThenticate 2.0

Turnitin endeavors to migrate as many users as possible. To keep migration to iThenticate 2.0 as efficient as possible, excess data will not be migrated–which includes specific cases of users that appear inactive. This purpose of this guide is to answer anticipated questions that may arise if this affects your account.

What user data will not be migrated?

We will not migrate the following categories of users:

  • Users with no login within the last 2 years and no submissions stored in their account.
  • Duplicate accounts with no submissions.
  • Deactivated users with no submissions.

What happens to duplicate users with submissions stored in their account?

  1. The following users will be migrated, but their status set to Deactivated in iThenticate 2.0:
  • Duplicate accounts with submissions. 
    • The last active duplicate account will be active. All other duplicate accounts will be migrated but deactivated.
  • Accounts not accessed within the last 2 years but with submissions.
  1. In order to migrate these accounts, a string of numbers are attached to the end of the email address.

I see some deactivated accounts that were active in iThenticate v1. Why have you deactivated them?

Why is there a random string of numbers added to some email addresses?

iThenticate 2.0 does not support more than one account being registered to a single email address. Adding digits to the email address ensures successful migration of duplicate accounts and inactive accounts with submission history in iThenticate v1. 

How can I activate an account that was migrated but deactivated?

Find the account in Users > Deactivated users and select Activate. In the case of duplicate accounts sharing an email address, you will need to update the email address after activating. In all cases, you will need to remove the string of numbers we have added to the email.
