Important dates to note
Microsoft is retiring the Turnitin Similarity integration for Microsoft Teams, effective December 31, 2026.
Due to Microsoft’s expedited timeline, you must complete your migration to the Turnitin Feedback Studio integration for Microsoft Teams before this date to avoid service interruptions.
We strongly recommend completing this transition during an upcoming break, between June and August 2026.
Please note that if we don't hear from you regarding your timeline, or if migration isn't completed between June and August, we'll assign you a designated migration window between August and December to ensure completion before the retirement date.

Benefits of Turnitin Feedback Studio Integration
The Turnitin Feedback Studio integration for Microsoft Teams elevates your teaching and grading workflow by bringing best-in-class similarity checking and a suite of intuitive, time-saving formative feedback and grading tools directly into your daily platform.
This upgrade improves upon the technical limitations of the old Turnitin Similarity integration by introducing:
- Access to new assignment types: The integration supports enhanced standard assignments, including Turnitin Clarity, an all-in-one writing space where students can compose and submit their work, learning to use AI assistance responsibly.
- Timely, actionable feedback: The integration provides full access to the comprehensive grading and feedback tools within Turnitin Feedback Studio.
- Enhanced visibility: Full access to institutional match source details, which are no longer hidden as private.
- Collusion detection: The ability to detect collusion within the same assignment.
- Repository controls: Options to modify indexing to the global papers repository and submit instructor paper deletion requests.
- Advanced insights: Full access to assignment analytics and the AI Writing report, if licensed.
- Simplified access to Draft Coach: Direct access to Draft Coach without needing an extra Originality license.

Migration process overview
The migration process can be standardized into these key steps:
- Notify users and discontinue the Turnitin Similarity integration: Discontinue use of the Turnitin Similarity integration and alert faculty to the change.
-
Enable the new integration: Your specific action depends on your institution's current setup, which falls into one of three scenarios:
- Scenario 1: If your institution currently has and uses the Turnitin Feedback Studio integration, you only need to stop using the old Turnitin Similarity integration and continue using Turnitin Feedback Studio exclusively.
- Scenario 2: If your institution has access to Turnitin Feedback Studio but is not yet using the Turnitin Feedback Studio integration, you are required to set up the Turnitin Feedback Studio integration for Microsoft Teams. You can do this on your own or get help during our shared training sessions. You can also use our training resources to onboard your instructors and students.
- Scenario 3: If your institution currently has only Turnitin Similarity or Originality Check, Turnitin will provision you with Turnitin Feedback Studio access. You will then need to configure the Turnitin Feedback Studio integration and use our training resources to onboard your instructors and students.
- Training: Explore user guides and onboarding materials to help instructors and students transition smoothly.
- Go live: Begin using Turnitin Feedback Studio within Microsoft Teams moving forward.
