Welcome to your central resource for upgrading from Plagiarism Framework to Document Processor. To make this transition, your institution must first upgrade to Turnitin Advantage (LTI 1.3).
This page provides the information, guidance, and resources needed to help your institution prepare for and complete a smooth migration.
We suggest utilizing this page as a starting point, but should you have any questions, feel free to raise them on the Canvas discussion board.
Benefits of upgrading to Turnitin's Advantage (LTI 1.3) with Document Processor
Document Processor is the next generation of Turnitin's integration with native Canvas assignments, replacing the legacy Canvas Plagiarism Framework (CPF) workflow. It allows instructors to continue adding Turnitin's academic integrity checks to their Canvas assignments while maintaining the familiar workflows they use today.
Powered by the LTI 1.3 standard, Document Processor provides a more modern, secure integration while keeping Turnitin's academic integrity insights directly within Canvas.
Key benefits:
- Integrated insights in Canvas SpeedGrader: Access Turnitin's Similarity Reports and AI writing insights directly within SpeedGrader, keeping academic integrity checks alongside familiar grading workflows.
- Familiar Canvas assignment experience: Continue creating assignments, collecting submissions, and managing grades directly within Canvas without switching between platforms.
- Enhanced security: Benefit from the modern LTI 1.3 standard, designed to provide stronger security and more secure communication between Canvas and Turnitin.
- Simplified migration: Transition existing CPF assignments to Document Processor using a new migration tool, eliminating the need for instructors to manually reconfigure individual assignments.
- A foundation for future innovation: Modernized technology supports continued improvements and new capabilities as Turnitin and Canvas evolve.

Moving your Plagiarism Framework assignments to Document Processor
Beginning November 21, 2026, Canvas plans to introduce a new migration tool to simplify the transition from Plagiarism Framework to Document Processor.
The tool allows Canvas administrators to migrate existing Plagiarism Framework assignments across their institution without requiring instructors to manually update individual assignments.
Administrators can choose when to initiate the migration, making it easier to plan the transition around academic calendars and institutional needs.
Once migrated, existing Plagiarism Framework assignments will use Document Processor instead of the legacy integration, allowing instructors to continue managing their assignments directly within Canvas.
Important: Turnitin reports may be temporarily unavailable in SpeedGrader while the migration is in progress. We recommend scheduling your migration outside active grading periods to minimize disruption to instructors.
For more information about the upcoming migration tool, visit Instructure's Canvas release notes for November 21, 2026.
