[New] Creating a rubric or grading form

This feature is relevant to our new grading and feedback experience. If you are using our classic grading and feedback workflow, you can view our classic experience guidance for more information, or learn more about switching to the new experience from our resource center.

You can create a rubric during or after assignment creation.

If creating a rubric for a new assignment:

  1. Set up the assignment as usual and ensure you have completed filling out the assignment details.

If creating a rubric for an existing assignment:

  1. Select the assignment you would like to create a rubric for. Then, select the green Edit button at the top right.

Continue the creation process:

  1. Select the Rubric tab from the top of the screen.
  2. Select the Create Rubric button at the top right.
  3. Select the Create New Rubric tile and then select Next at the bottom right.

If you would like to import an existing rubric instead, see our guidance for Managing rubrics and grading forms.

  1. Enter a title for your rubric or grading form. You can use a maximum of 25 characters.
  2. Choose the rubric type from the available options. See our Types of rubrics and grading forms guide for more information about how each type differs.
  3. Depending on the type of rubric selected, you can set optional additional Rubric Options or Rubric Scoring settings.
    1. For weighted rubrics, you can set a custom number of criterion rows and scale columns up to 50. You can also choose to enable ranged scoring and/or equal criterion weights.
    2. For qualitative and custom rubrics, you can set a custom number of criterion rows and scale columns up to 50.
    3. For grading forms, you can set a number of criterion rows up to 50.

During the creation process, you can manually add extra criterion rows and scale columns. These settings make it easier to begin the process with a custom number of rows and/or columns.
