[New] Grading with rubrics and grading forms

This feature is relevant to our new grading and feedback experience. If you are using our classic grading and feedback workflow, you can view our classic experience guidance for more information, or learn more about switching to the new experience from our resource center.

In order to grade with a rubric or grading form, you must first create a rubric or attach an existing rubric to the assignment.

There are two ways to grade with a rubric or grading form. You can grade from the side panel or the full-size rubric/form viewer.

From the side panel

  1. Select the Rubric navigation at the top of the submission. The criteria for your attached rubric or grading form will appear in the side panel.
    1. For rubrics, you can set the score for each criterion using the sliders. Select and drag the slider to the assigned score. Alternatively, you can type the score directly into the numerical field.
    2. For grading forms, you can add comments to the comment fields and set a numerical score (if enabled on the form template).
  2. Once you have set your scores, select Apply to Grade at the top of the side panel. When you do this, the assignment grade will change depending on the values you've assigned to each criterion.

From the expanded full-size view

The full-size view displays your rubric or form in a separate window and allows you to grade submissions more efficiently and see all of the rubric information. The student you are currently grading can be seen in the top right corner of the expanded view. You can use the submission navigation options to navigate to other students and continue to grade each student who has submitted the assignment. The expanded rubric view will update to reflect which submission is being actively viewed.

  1. From the Rubric tab, in the side panel, select the arrow icon to the right of the rubric or grading form title.
  2. Grade the submission.
    1. For rubrics, select a criterion description to give your students a score for that area.
    2. For grading forms, you can write comments and assign scores (if enabled in the form template) to each criterion.
  3. When finished, select the Apply to Grade button at the bottom right.

The enhanced grading and feedback experience supports graded values to the hundredth decimal.
