Starting your Clarity assignment

This guide helps students start a Turnitin Clarity Student Writing assignment and open the Clarity writing space.

If you have questions about your writing or submission, contact your instructor directly.

Accessing the writing space

To open your assignment, follow the steps for your learning management system (LMS). The process may vary slightly by platform.

  1. Select the Content tab, then select your assignment name.

Reviewing assignment details

  1. Review the assignment title and instructions on the left side.
    1. If the instructions are longer than the preview, select Read more to open a pop-up window with the full text. Preview box with Read more link for expanded assignment instructions. 
  2. Review key dates, including the Start date, Due date, and Feedback release date.
    1. Start date: When the writing space opens.
    2. Due date: When your assignment is due. Late work is marked according to your instructor’s policy.
    3. Feedback release date: When grades and comments become available.
    4. Max points: The total possible score for the assignment.

  3. If your instructor included a rubric, select its name to view the grading criteria. Rubric link expanded to show grading criteria in Turnitin Clarity.
  4. Review the section under Max points and the rubric to see whether late submissions or resubmissions are allowed.

    All of the information in the assignment details is also available in the writing space on the Instructions

Opening the writing space

All writing, editing, and submission for Student Writing assignments take place in the Turnitin Clarity writing space.

  1. Select Start Writing to open your assignment in Turnitin Clarity. Start Writing button on Turnitin Clarity assignment page.
  2. Your assignment opens in the Turnitin Clarity writing space.
  3. In the side panel, use:
    1. Instructions: View assignment details and due date.
    2. AI Chat: Get help with planning, research, or proofreading. For more information, view Using Turnitin Clarity’s AI Chat
