Submitting a Clarity assignment

This guide helps students confidently submit, resubmit, and manage late submissions in Turnitin Clarity assignments.

In this guide:

The document, Similarity and Writing Reports (if enabled), and feedback are available immediately after submission, regardless of the due date.

Preview your submission

You can select Preview at any time to see how your submission will appear before you submit it. The preview opens in a new tab and displays your work as paged content, and will include any headers, footers, page numbers, and footnotes you've added.

Using Preview does not affect your submission.

Understanding submission attempts and due dates

Each assignment has specific submission settings that determine how many times you can submit and whether late submissions are allowed.

  • Resubmissions: Your instructor may allow more than one submission before the due date.
    • If resubmissions are not allowed, you’ll have only one opportunity to submit your work.
    • If resubmissions are allowed, you can replace your previous submission before the due date.
  • Late submissions: Your instructor also decides whether assignments can be submitted after the due date.
    • If late submissions are not allowed, you won’t be able to submit after the due date.
    • If late submissions are allowed, you can still submit after the due date, but you’ll only have one attempt, and the submission will be marked as late.

You can view both resubmission and late submission settings in the assignment details and in the Instructions tab of the writing space.

Submitting an assignment

A student writing assignment is drafted, edited, and submitted in the writing space.

  1. When you’ve finished writing and are ready to submit, in the submission toolbar at the top of the writing space, select Submit.
    1. If resubmissions are not allowed, you’ll see a message: “You can submit your document only once.”
    2. If resubmissions are allowed, you’ll see how many submission attempts remain.
    3. Select Submit to confirm.

  1. After you submit, a Submission received message appears in the side panel.
  2. The writing space becomes read-only, and you can download your submitted document from the Menu in the toolbar.
  3. When you return to the Assignment Dashboard, you’ll see:
    1. Submitted in the Status column.
    2. The submission date and time listed below your document.

Resubmitting an assignment

Resubmission availability depends on the assignment settings your instructor selected and is only available after your initial submission.

  • You can only resubmit before the due date.
  • If the due date has passed, you can no longer resubmit your work.

You can check whether resubmissions are allowed in the assignment details and the Instructions tab in the side panel of the writing space.

  1. To make changes to your work before resubmitting, go to your Assignment Dashboard. Select Open writing space to reopen your document.
Open writing space button in Assignment Dashboard
  2. Or, if you want to make edits immediately after submission, select Edit submission in the toolbar to begin making edits.
  3. When you’re ready to submit your updated work, select the Resubmit button on the submission toolbar.

Resubmitting replaces all previous versions, including any grading or feedback your instructor provided.

  1. A confirmation modal appears with details about your resubmission. You’ll see:
    1. A reminder that submitting will replace your previous submission.
    2. A notice that your instructor will be able to see your new submission and Writing Report.
    3. A reminder that you can submit up to three times within 24 hours.
  2. Select Resubmit to confirm.
  3. After you resubmit, you’ll see a Submission received message in the side panel.
  4. The Last submitted field in the Instructions tab shows the date and time of your most recent submission.
  5. When you approach your submission limit, Turnitin Clarity will display a warning modal:
    1. If this is your last resubmission attempt within 24 hours, a message appears: “You have 1 resubmission left. Once the limit is reached, you’ll need to wait until [date and time submission becomes available] to submit again.”
    2. To use your remaining attempt, select Continue to resubmit.
  6. After this final resubmission, the Resubmit button will be disabled until your next submission window begins.
    1. If you try to resubmit again before that time, a message will appear reminding you when you can submit next, including the date and time.
    2. You can continue writing and editing in the writing space even if your attempts are used, but those edits won’t be evaluated until you successfully resubmit.

Submitting after the due date

Your instructor determines whether an assignment is late or on time according to their policies.

Late submissions are not allowed

If your instructor has not enabled late submissions, you won’t be able to submit your assignment after the due date.

You can check whether late submissions are allowed in the assignment details and the Instructions tab in the side panel of the writing space.
