Submitting an assignment in Canvas using the Document Processor

This guide for students explains how to submit a Turnitin assignment in Canvas using the Document Processor. If you are unsure which version of Canvas you are using, ask your instructor. By following these steps, you will successfully upload your work and, if permissions are enabled by your instructor, access your Similarity Report.

Submit your assignment in Canvas

Follow these steps to submit your assignment:

  1. In your Canvas course, select Assignments
  2. Select the name of your assignment. 
  3. When prompted, agree to the End User License Agreement. 

  4. Choose your submission type: Upload a file or text entry.  

    Your submission options will look like one of the following, depending on if you are using the enhanced student view or the standard student view:   

Enhanced Student View 

Standard View 

  1. When you are ready, select Submit Assignment.

Your submission is now complete.

Make sure you receive a submission confirmation in Canvas. If you do not see confirmation, your file may not have uploaded successfully.

View your Similarity Report (if enabled)

If your instructor has allowed students to view Similarity Reports, you can access your report from the assignment page or through Grades.

Enhanced student view Standard student view
  1. Go to assignments 
  2. Select the name of your assignment
  3. Select the Please review link  
  4. Select View Turnitin Similarity Report to view the report


From Grades

  1. Select Grades in Canvas. 
  2. Locate the assignment. 
  3. Select Please review next to your submission.

If you do not see the Please review option, your instructor may not have enabled report access.
