Which version of the Standard Assignment are you using?
There are currently two versions of the Standard Assignment:
- New Standard Assignment
- Classic Standard Assignment
It is possible that your institution could be using both versions at the same time, or only enable one at a time. The image below will help you identify which version you are using and point you toward the correct guidance for your workflow.
Assignment details
The assignment details show all information provided to you by your instructor to complete your work, as well as assignment settings and dates related to submitting your assignment.
This area displays the following information:
- Title: The name your instructor has given the assignment.
- Instructions: Instructions provided by your instructor.
- Submit: The button you select to upload your file.
- Template: If your instructor has created a template for the assignment, it will be available for download. The content of the template will be automatically excluded from your similarity score.
- Start date: The date and time you are able to make a submission.
- Due date: The date and time submissions will be disabled.
- Feedback release date: The date and time any grading or feedback will be shared by your instructor.
- Max points: The maximum amount of points possible to achieve.
- Rubric: If your instructor has attached a rubric on your file name. To rename it, edit the submission title text box.
- Select Upload and Preview.

- Choose the file from your device.
- Review the submission title. Your submission title autofills based on your file name. To rename it, edit the submission title text box.

Viewing feedback in Canvas SpeedGrader
Your instructor may grade your assignment in Canvas SpeedGrader and leave feedback in the Turnitin report viewer. When this happens, your grade appears in Canvas, but the grade field in Turnitin may be empty.
