What is a Multipart assignment?
A Multipart assignment is a connected set of assignment parts. Each part has its own title, instructions, dates, settings, and submissions, but the parts are grouped together as one assignment experience.
For example, a research paper could be set up as a Multipart assignment with separate parts for:

- Final draft
Students complete each part as they work toward the larger assignment. Instructors can review each submission and provide feedback at different stages.
When to use Multipart assignments
Multipart assignments are useful when you want students to build toward a final piece of work over time.
You might use a Multipart assignment to:
- Break a large assignment into smaller deliverables
- Give feedback before students submit a final draft
- Review how student work changes between drafts
- Support scaffolded writing, research, or project work
- Help students understand each step of a larger task
How Multipart assignments work
When you create a Multipart assignment, you add each assignment part separately. Each part can be set up with its own due date, feedback release date, instructions, and settings.
Instructors can use different Turnitin assignment types as parts of a Multipart assignment. For example, a Multipart assignment could include Standard and Clarity parts.
After a Multipart assignment is created, students see the assignment as a connected set of parts in their Multipart Overview. They can view which parts are available, completed, or upcoming.
Instructors can open any part of a Multipart assignment to view the submission list for that part. When reviewing a student submission, they can use the parts navigation to move between the student’s submissions for each part.
Instructors can also select Edit Settings from any opened part to edit all available parts of the Multipart assignment. Parts that have not been opened in the LMS are not available to edit.

How do I access Multipart assignments?
You can create Multipart assignments from the Create an assignment area in Turnitin. Multipart assignments are available through the browser Turnitin experience and supported LMS LTI 1.3 integrations.
Multipart assignments are not supported by the following LMS integrations:

- Sakai
- Schoolbox
- Manaba
- In Campus
- AmpEducator
How are Multipart assignments different from regular assignments?
A regular assignment is a single assignment with one submission workflow. A Multipart assignment connects multiple assignment parts into one larger assignment experience.
Each part still has its own submission list and settings and can be graded separately. The Multipart assignment groups those parts together so instructors and students can follow the full assignment journey.
Can I use Clarity in a Multipart assignment?
Yes. Multipart assignments can include Clarity parts.
For example, you could create one Clarity part for a first draft and another for a revised draft. When students begin the revised draft, their writing space automatically includes their first draft submission. They can continue editing and build on their existing work while completing each stage separately within the same Multipart assignment.
Can Multipart assignments include different assignment types?
Yes. Multipart assignments can include different Turnitin assignment types, such as Standard and Clarity, if your institution has Clarity available.
Can I add an existing assignment to a Multipart assignment?
Yes. You can add an existing assignment as a part when creating a Multipart assignment.
What do students see?
Students see each part of a Multipart assignment as a separate assignment in their LMS or Turnitin, as they normally would. When they open a part, they can submit their work for that part.
