A primary master class instructor has many options for handling assignments in the sections and the master class itself.
These options include:
-
Designing template assignments that become part of the class assignment library. The TAs assigned sections in the master class can then create their own assignments or select the template assignments from the class assignment library.
-
Entering complete assignments and adding them to some or all of the sections of a master class.
-
Adding partial assignments (e.g. assignments containing selected preferences but no dates) to some or all sections to accommodate different class schedules.
-
Locking assignments to prevent changes by section TAs and adding these assignments to the sections of the master class.
Creating new master class sections
After creating a master class, instructors can add a class section and assign a Teaching Assistant (TA) to manage that section. A single TA may have multiple class sections assigned to them. However, you can only assign one TA to each section.
Before you can assign a TA to a class section, they must first have an instructor profile on the account that contains the master class. As a security measure, administrators must add a TA to the account as an instructor.
To begin the two-step process, select the + Section link to the right of the name of the master class.
Step 1 - TA information
-
First, enter some basic details for the Teaching Assistant for the new section:
-
TA’s first name
-
TA’s last name
-
TA’s email address associated with their instructor profile
-
-
Use the Submit button to continue to the next step.
Step 2 - Section information
-
Next, enter the required section information:
-
A name or number for the section
-
A section enrollment key (students use this key to join the class section, as they would a primary class)
Only the primary master class instructor and the TA will be able to edit and manage this class section, including viewing any submitted files or generated similarity reports.
-
-
Use the Submit button to complete step 2 and add the section to the master class. The assigned TA will receive an email from Turnitin welcoming them to the class.
Each new section will appear on the primary master class instructor’s homepage, nested beneath the master class with the TA’s name in parentheses. However, the TA will only see the class section(s) assigned to them on their homepage.
Changing preferences
The master class preferences page allows a primary master class instructor to determine which Turnitin products or features are available in section classes and set limits to the capabilities assigned to TAs for all sections of the master class.
To access the master class preferences page, select the preferences tab on the master class homepage.
In addition to the standard class preference options, the primary master class instructor can select to:
- lock assignment information on sections
- lock assignment dates on sections
- allow or disallow section TA ability to create or delete assignments
- lock settings for sections
- add a class link to an external site that your students in this class only can view
These settings allow the primary master class instructor to enable or disable certain capabilities of the TA users in the sections of the master class. This can be used to prevent changes from being made to required settings on assignments.
Select the submit button to save any changes made to the class preferences.
