This guide for instructors explains how to create a Turnitin assignment using Google Classroom.
- From the Classwork tab, select + Create and choose Assignment from the dropdown that appears.
- In the Add-ons section, select Turnitin. This will launch a modal where you can begin setting up your assignment in Turnitin.
The Turnitin assignment types shown in your account will vary depending on which options your institution has enabled. If your institution has only one option enabled, you may launch directly to the assignment setup for that type.
Classic Standard Assignments are unavailable with the Google Classroom integration. The option may still appear for some instructors, but selecting it will not create a functional assignment

When creating a Turnitin Assignment, Title, Due Date, and Points (Max Points) fields will automatically sync back to the Classroom assignment. Instructions do not sync, so be sure to add them directly in Classroom (or in both places) to ensure students see the correct information.
Students must submit through the Turnitin attachment in the Google Classroom assignment. Files uploaded directly to the native Google Classroom submission area are not processed by Turnitin.
- Once you have completed the assignment setup process in Turnitin, the Turnitin assignment will appear as an attachment on the Classroom assignment below the instructions panel. The due date and points selected for the assignment will appear in the side panel. Grade sync is enabled by default which means that the final grade entered in Turnitin will become the draft grade in Classroom
- Optionally, attach any necessary materials using the links in the Attach section.
- By default, Google Classroom will assign this assignment to all students within the class. You can change this by selecting All students under Assign to in the right sidebar. Use the checkboxes to select a subset of students, or select the Groups tab to select one or more groups. When finished, select Done.
When finished, select the blue Assign option at the top right. Alternatively, you can select the arrow beside it to reveal a dropdown menu with options to schedule the assignment to go out at a certain day or time, save the draft, or discard the draft.
