What are audio or video summary comments?
A media summary lets you record either an audio or video message from the Summary area of the Similarity Report. Students can view the media summary along with your written summary comment and any in-paper feedback when they open their report.
Add an audio or video summary
- Select the Feedback tab.
- In the Summary panel, select Audio Summary or Video Summary.
- If prompted by your browser, allow Turnitin to access your microphone and/or camera.
Browser permission prompts are controlled by your browser. If you previously blocked access, open your browser’s site permissions from the address bar, allow camera and/or microphone access for Turnitin, then refresh the report and try again.
For a video summary, choose your background options before you start recording:
- You can blur or replace your background before selecting Record.
- Background options cannot be changed once recording has started.
- Select Record.
A 3-second countdown appears before recording begins. Select Cancel during the countdown to stop before recording starts. - Record your summary.
Audio and video summary comments can be up to 5 minutes in length.
- When you are finished, select Stop.
- Review your recording. Use the playback controls to check your recording. For video summaries, use the full screen icon to preview the video in a larger view.
- To delete the recording and record again before saving, select the trash can icon.
- Select Save to upload the recording.
Keep the report open until you see confirmation that the summary comment has been saved. Closing the report before seeing the confirmation message may result in the recording not being saved.
Captions, transcripts, and video download options may continue processing after the recording is saved.
After the recording is saved, the media summary card appears in the Summary panel.
Captions are generated automatically after upload and may take a few moments to appear.
- For audio summaries, captions display below the audio player.
- For video summaries, captions and the video download option are available after processing is complete.
Troubleshooting
Camera and microphone permissions
If you select Audio Summary or Video Summary and you see a browser permission prompt or a permission error, your browser may not have access to your microphone or camera.
Try these fixes:
- In your browser’s address bar, open site permissions for Turnitin and allow access to your microphone and/or camera.
- Refresh the page, then try recording again.
- If you are using a device with multiple microphones or cameras, select the correct input device in your browser settings.
