Managing submissions
Search
Submissions made to Turnitin Similarity or SimCheck products cannot be deleted within Turnitin Feedback Studio's submission management tool. Administrators can use the paper lookup tool to search for submissions and action deletions made to Similarity or SimCheck products for now.
The search function within the Manage Submissions tab allows administrators to search for individual submissions or all of the submissions within an assignment. Accepted search criteria include:
- Submission ID - shows a single submission made by a student. The submission ID can be found within the Similarity Report or copied from the assignment’s submission list.
- Assignment ID - shows all of the submissions made within a single assignment.
- Student email - shows all submissions made by a single student.
- Instructor email - shows all classes an instructor is enrolled within, and the assignments and submissions within them. Any submissions made by the instructor to Turnitin’s Quick Submit will also appear in the search.
Submissions made via an integration that pass a pseudo or anonymised email address (e.g. emails in the form of 1102378-turnitin@api.turnitin.com) will not be found when searching for the actual student email address.
Searching for submissions allows you to:
- See submission details, such as the author and the date submitted.
- Download PDFs of the original file, Similarity Report, or grading report of a submission.
Permanently delete submissions without the need for an instructor to follow the requesting process.
Delete
Deleting a submission is permanent and cannot be recovered.
Administrators can permanently delete submissions without the need for an instructor to follow the requesting process by using the Search function. The submission ID or assignment ID is required to search for the submission that requires deletion.
To permanently delete a submission that doesn’t have an existing request:
- Access the Manage Submissions tab of the account.
- Enter the submission ID of the submission that is required to be deleted, or enter the assignment ID that the file was submitted to. Select Search.
- Review the submission details to ensure it is the submission required.
- Select the trash icon to begin the deletion.
- Review the confirmation, and when ready to continue, select the confirmation checkbox and then the Permanently Delete Submission button.
Permanently deleting a submission will:
- Remove the submission from everywhere in Turnitin, including from the instructor's and student’s assignment and Turnitin’s repositories.
- Remove all generated reports and any associated grading and feedback.
- The submission will not match against future submissions or appear in Similarity Reports. If it appears as a match in an existing report, the report will need to be refreshed after the deletion takes place.
Reviewing and actioning deletion requests
Want to delete a submission that isn’t listed in your deletion requests? Check out the guidance for managing submissions.
Depending on your institution’s account settings, instructors can send a request to their administrator to have a submission permanently deleted. To learn more about enabling or disabling the deletion requests feature, check out our account settings guidance.
As the administrator, you are able to approve or reject any deletion requests that come from instructors. Instructors are asked to provide a reason for their request to assist you with your decision.
Deleting a submission is permanent and cannot be recovered.
To action deletion requests:
- Access the Manage Submissions tab of the account.
- The number of pending requests will be noted beside the Deletion requests tab, select it to review.
- You will be provided with a list of all pending deletion requests from instructors at your institution. You can either action each request individually by selecting the Approve or Reject buttons at the end of the row, or you can use the check boxes to approve up to ten requests at once.
