SSO Access Restrictions
Turnitin License(s): iThenticate 2.0, Turnitin Similarity, Turnitin Originality
Turnitin Administrators can now control and manage access to their institution’s Turnitin account when using iThenticate 2.0, Turnitin Similarity, or Turnitin Originality based on user attributes from your identity provider (like department, role, or location).
This release will help you:
- Streamline access management by leveraging existing identity provider groups and attributes
- Maintain stronger security by ensuring only authorized team members can access the account
- Reduce manual user management with automated, attribute-based access control
How can you get access to this feature?
When enabling SSO with our technical support team, you can simply specify the attribute pairs in your SSO configuration that define who should have access.
If you already have SSO enabled and would like to enable access control, visit our help center to raise a ticket and our team will help you through the setup process.

AI writing detection for Japanese submissions
Turnitin License(s): Feedback Studio w/Originality, Turnitin Similarity w/Originality, OC w/Originality, iThenticate 2.0 w/ AI writing enabled
We’re happy to announce the release of our AI writing detection capabilities in Japanese to help educators uphold academic integrity by offering insights for Japanese language submissions.
From this date, our AI writing detection for Japanese submissions will be available to all our existing customers who currently license Turnitin Originality and have the AI writing detection capability enabled on their accounts. It will also be available to iThenticate 2.0 customers who currently license AI writing detection and have it enabled on their accounts.
Japanese detection will run alongside our English, and Spanish detectors, and based on the language of the submission - whether it’s English, Japanese, or Spanish – the appropriate model will process the submission and provide a report. If a paper in an unsupported language is submitted, our model will not process the paper for AI writing detection.
Our Japanese model is adept at distinguishing AI-written content from human-written content specifically for academic writing, given our twenty-five years of experience in understanding and safeguarding academic integrity. Additional benefits of our capability include:
Addressing emerging challenges: We understand the importance of adapting our solutions to help our customers meet emerging challenges such as those posed by generative AI writing tools. Our AI writing indicator focuses on identifying likely AI-generated text while keeping a low false positive rate, helping institutions uphold academic integrity and advance student learning.
Supporting users’ existing workflow: The AI detection capabilities are built into our existing similarity report workflow, which means that it’s also integrated with our users’ learning management system. So, instructors can check student papers for AI writing without having to change the way they work.
Simple and comprehensible reporting: Turnitin’s AI writing indicator for Japanese shows an overall percentage of the text in the document submitted that may have been AI-generated. The accompanying report highlights the segments that are predicted to be likely AI-written. Our solution has been designed with and for educators and provides the information they need to help them determine their next course of action.
